"WWII Naval Forces" (labelled "Navy" on its cover, but the author's "Naval Forces" is more accurate considering the inclusion of Marines) is a great addition to the YouChoose history series. These book use the format pioneered by the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books years ago, but they improve on the format in several ways (including making it easier to deliberately go back and choose another path conveniently - definitely a plus once a youngster is truly engrossed in the book).WWII at sea had endless possibilities for the writer, but the three paths explored are well-chosen iconic ones: a Marine at Pearl Harbor, a sailor at D-Day, and most interestingly, an enlisted man on the German superbattleship "Bismark". The German option is handled quite deftly, neither lionizing nor disparaging the German sailor of the Kriegsmarine; the focus in all three stories is on the life-of-death decisions of an enlisted man caught up in circumstances largely beyond his control. The endings are nuanced, neither triumphalist nor gruesome. Not every sad fate traces directly back to a bad decision; some result from random dangers, all too common in war.The absence of submarine options, when subs were so pivotal to WWII strategy and prominent in the WWII experience, leaves me hopeful that they have been saved for a "WW II Submarines" volume. When it appears, I'll acquire it quickly, particularly if the same author takes the project on.
My son is a HUGE war and history fanatic. He LOVES to read anything related to it. Remembering the books from my youth where you could chose your own endings...I ran into this series. They are fabulous! Worth every penny...The books let them choose from 3 different story scenarios and teach them lessons about everyday life during these times as well. Totally in love with these. Great quality books as well. Very tightly binded so that they won't fall apart. I bought several for Christmas and my son couldn't wait to read them! We will be buying them all!!!
My grandpa served in the Navy during WWII. This let my children see what the war was like and chose different paths if they desire!
Very exciting paths possible with this interactive book. Eight year old grandson enjoyed his choices immensely.
The book should be longer and have more detail. I think the book would be better If it had longer pages.

My third grade twins (boy and girl)love taking these books out of their schoolLibrary and wanted their own copies. Very engaging and educational.
I have read many books about WWII. Navy, Army Air Force, Army and Marines. I found this book very deficient and often miss leading. The book was a waste of my money.
