As mentioned in another review, the pictures are so small it makes it very difficult to correctly tie the knot. Even worse is that in the image itself, it so far away, zoomed out, that there is a lot of wasted space in those images. Why do I need to see the author's entire arm? Zoom in on the knot!
There are a LOT of Knot books available, and many I own. I'm thinking if you were to own ONE knot book (kinda hard to do), this one is a good one to consider. The spiral binding is a real bonus. Every time this book is used, the appreciation for a spiral binding cannot be suppressed. Oft times, there's more than one way to tie a knot. The Alpine Butterfly is one, and this book has a straight-forward and simple way to tie one. Besides knots, there's a primer on rope, knots, safety as an introduction, and at the end, a tutorial on how to keep the ends of a rope from fraying.That's invaluable. As mentioned earlier, if you just want one book on knots, this is one to seriously consider. Heck, just buy it. Can't go wrong.
Small to tiny print it is difficult to read. It is not 80 different knots, some basic knots have four or five variations.
The information is good, but the format is too small and difficult to see for those of us over 40.
I enjoy learning the knots with my son. The spiral bound is a great feature for such a book as this. Can't really ask for more, although the order that the knots are presented isn't necessarily great for a beginner; it's more like a catalog of knots, so looking for the 'easier' ones takes a little hunting.
Nice book. Well laid out. Comprehensive assortment of knots. The text is clear and easy to read. The author is thorough in his explanations and background behind the knots. As other reviewers have already stated, the illustrations are way too small. Some of them I can not even see the knots wrapping. Overall a good book. I did get some valuable information. I would buy it again (but only if the illustrations were enlarged). Hope the author is aware of this for next release.
I've always wanted to know how to tie useful knots. I love this book! I carry it around in my backpack with a length of rope and teach myself new knots when I have spare time, such as waiting for an appointment to begin, etc. Previously I could only figure out knots with slow motion videos. The pictures in this book have made each step clear to me, so I've had much success. What's more, my boys are interested in learning knots as a result of seeing me teach myself from this book. I highly recommend it.
Skip this book if you want to learn anything about Paracord knots and weaving techniques. This book is all about the knots that a sailor or other peoples trade or hobby require.
