I have not used this book yet but started learning piano last year with the first two books and have learned so much from them! I played piano for one year as a child and now fifty years later, wanted to try again. These books are so easy to follow and make it very easy to learn step by step. I'm sure I will love book 3 as much as I and 2 and highly recommend these for other adult beginners.
I bought this book a few months ago, and it just sat. I played Piano almost 40 years ago. I took lessons for ten years. I forgot so much. This book is perfect. Exactly what I needed. I bought a brand new digital Piano, and sat down and finished book one in a day! I couldn’t stop. My husband was going to give me lessons again, but I don’t think I need them with these books. Book two should arrive today. I cannot recommend these books enough. Great variety of music. I learned I love to play the Blues.
I'm a piano teacher, and I've been using this system for years. It teaches chord theory right along with the music so that it makes sense and is easily retained. The music theory becomes part of the general piano instruction, the music is wide-ranging in type and style, and is nicely arranged, presenting a well-rounded musical education. I even use it with children, (who I don't usually accept as students until they are 8 years old,) who might have hands too small to make an octave stretch, because I hate, hate HATE the standard children's series, which take forever to progress, have stupid songs with even more stupid lyrics. *shudder* I'll use those series with younger, less mature students who need to go slower, but the vast majority of my students can handle the adult series, and enjoy it, and the adults really appreciate it.
Learning piano by yourself is not an easy task, specially if you have never had any musical back ground . The method is technically very interesting, but I find her to play without the CD, which is not included. I was trying to play even without the CD, until I came across some blessed soul that videoed herself playing each track of the book and uploaded to YouTube. When I heard the pieces , I realized how wrong I was playing, how wrong I was touching the keys and how I missed the tempo. It is hard to acquire that only reading thru the techniques. So, if you want to teach yourself piano, be sure to find a version of the book with the audio enclosed.
Great set of learning books. I purchased all 3 books and I think they are great. With any books like these, I do suggest using a teacher because sometimes its best to have someone critique you in person. For self learners, this book boosts knowledge with theory and has great finger exercises.
Amazing fun book. This book has helped my wife and I increase our piano skill. It is just full of songs which each have a different style. Every style of song is in this book. Each song increases in difficulty. The book teaches you a new key and gives several songs to help you learn that key.
I have used Book 1 with three students; one adult two teenagers. The students found the book "boring" and enjoy the additional music I provide. The theory, scales, chords and other information will be beneficial in the future. I found the book very informative and believe it will be a good reference for the students as they progress in the study of music.
At 70+ I started taking piano lessons and ordered Levels One, Two and Three of the Alfred’s Basic Adult All-in-One Piano Courses. Because the books include theory and technic pages it helps one to understand the basic concepts of music. The books have really helped me to advance in my lessons at a faster pace. Purchasing all three at once has saved me money as compared to purchasing the books at a music store.
